Lyrics

Hello, my name is Paul Chun
And this is a Midgar Swamp Exclusive
Holler for my main man, DJ Indogutsu Tenbuki
Give it up for the JeffreyAtW remix

Lay it down, turn it over
Lay it down, turn it over
Lay it down, turn it over
Lay it down, turn it over

The session's done, the time has passed, it's been a blast
The record's spun, the clock has run, the spell's been cast
The maze is through, the puzzle's solved, the clue's revealed
The letter's wrote, the stamp is licked, the box is sealed

The MC, the DJ, and the producer
We all agree they don't make hip-hop like they used ta
It takes some skill to wake your spirit like a roosta
And make the Spanish bumblebee say "Yo me gusta"

We'll spell it out for you in this long year's final track
Sometimes you need to take a break and get your life back
And be in the zone when your inspiration surges
Because you still have some undiscovered inner urges

It's all about something that you need to figure out
Something born from the soul, that escapes through the mouth
So get it down on paper, or Microsoft Word
And tell the planet just exactly what needs to be heard

Lay it down, turn it over
Lay it down, turn it over
Lay it down, turn it over
Lay it down, turn it over

The session's done, the time has passed, it's been a blast
The record's spun, the clock has run, the spell's been cast
The die's been cast, the dice is tossed, and hope's not lost
The time has passed, the stone has rolled, it has no moss

C is for the action, that's done with your eye
U is for the unity, that bonds you and I
B is for the beat, and without it, hip-hop is nothin'
E is for Entenmann's, they make some kickin' muffins

S is for the speech, and the spirit and the soul
E is for the essence making good times roll
S is for Souzou, Japanese for "creation"
S is for Sagasu, the verb for exploration

I is for the Internet and information
O is for the one beat, one pride, one nation
N is for the never-ending techno-rockin' groove
S is for the style, the skill, the Swamp is on the move

Lay it down, turn it over
Lay it down, turn it over
Lay it down, turn it over
Lay it down, turn it over

The session's done, the time has passed, it's been a blast
The record's spun, the clock has run, the spell's been cast
The game is cubed, the station's played, the box is X'ed
And only God will know for sure what happens next

2002 was a hell of a time
It gave us more experience than a Metal Slime
So Slim Gowdey, say howdy to the end of the line
Dig the right ditch in '03 and find a gold mine

We met Mister Hotlips and heard massiv sound clips
Hot Limit, Dance Instructor, Bagel Bagel, Spin The Disc
California College Love took you on campus trips
Just don't let scholastic setbacks send you down in the dips

Cause the stuck-up ho's may say your writing's sub-par
But you shouldn't let their frigid bitching change who you are
You better find some quarters, put the keys in your car
And drive yourself to Starbase for some DDR

Audio Details

  • The song "Turnover (It's Been A Blast)" was recorded on December 31, 2002 by Indogutsu Tenbuki in his "home recording studio," which consisted of his Dell, Winamp, some bottom-of-the-line audio editing programs, and a super-cheap microphone that came with the Dell.
  • The song's lyrics contain several references to timely happenings in the lives of Indogutsu's online friends JeffreyAtW and CaptainCanada, as well as JeffreyAtW's webcomic, CAR. (CaptainCanada is also a regular cast member in CAR, where he is called by his real name, James.) Because of its strong connection to CAR, JeffreyAtW decided to use "Turnover" in the comic's 100th issue special.
  • The background music of "Turnover" is "Feldschlacht IV" from the PlayStation game "SaGa Frontier 2," originally composed by Masashi Hamauzu. JeffreyAtW remixed it for the final version used in the animutation.

Trivia

  • Paul Chun's appearance at the beginning is a reference to The Adventures of Paul Chun, an earlier Flash cartoon by JeffreyAtW. While not an animutation per se, it features an animutation-like segment with misheard lyrics to "Boom Boom Dollar" and Colin Mochrie's floating head.
