He is the son of the late Dr. Shirogane, a scientist who noted that aliens were trying to destroy the [[Earth]] and proposed that certain people be injected with the DNA of specific &quot;Red Data&quot; endangered animals in order to save the planet. Unfortunately, Dr. Shirogane was unable to put this plan into action, as he and his wife were killed in a lab explosion, leaving young Ryou orphaned. Ryou was cared for by his servant [[Keiichiro Akasaka]], who helped him restart the Mew Mew project from Dr. Shirogane&#039;s research notes. Ryou used himself as the first guinea pig for the experiment, injecting himself in the side of the neck with the DNA of the Iriomote wildcat. Unlike [[Ichigo Momomiya|the]] [[Mint Aizawa|Tokyo]] [[Lettuce Midorikawa|Mew]] [[Pudding Fong|Mew]] [[Zakuro Fujiwara|girls]].
