Kaito Doumoto

In the anime Mermaid Melody: Pichi Pichi Pitch, Kaito Doumoto is the boy whom Lucia saved from drowning after the luxury liner he was on capsized in a storm seven years prior to the story's beginning. He is a champion surfer and is very popular with girls, especially Lucia, whom he later reveals he has feelings for.

Kaito originally was found on a beach as a baby and adopted by a pair of famous musicians, who died in the aforementioned incident. He now lives with his step-aunt and step-cousin.

In a recent interview, Pink Hanamori, the creator of the manga on which the anime mentioned above was based admitted that she based Kaito's design on one of the singers from the Japanese band KinKi Kids.

The falling-off-the-boat incident mentioned above is a semi-obvious reference to an event in Gackt's life; he claims that when he was seven years old, he fell off a boat off the coast of Okinawa and nearly drowned. After he was recued, he claims to have had paranormal experiences, which he has said does not want to pass on to his children, so he doesn't want any to be conceived of his blood.
