Wario is an evil ripoff of Mario, with the M turned upside down (well, actually, it's a pormanteau of "Mario" and warui, a Japanese word meaning "bad" or "evil"). Known for his greed, he tried (and failed) to collect the six golden coins and searched for other treasures. He also stars in WarioWare, where he dons a biker's outfit instead of his plumber one, where he, along with a variety of other characters, have microgames that last for a few seconds.

Unofficially, his brother is Waluigi, but Waluigi has only appeared alongside Wario in Mario spinoffs.
