The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were originally a series of adult comics about mutant turtles named Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo (who happened to be both ninjas and teenagers), and their nemesis Shredder. They became so immensly popular, that they made several movies and a few cartoons (you know, for the kids) based on the comics.
