That most famous and ubiquitous of Pokemon, Pikachu (whose name roughly translates as "spark mouse", pika being a Japanese onomatopoeia for sparks or sparkling, and chu being the Japanese equivalent of "squeak") is known to just about everyone who has even heard of the Pokemon phenomenon.
Pikachu is an electric-type Pokemon. It evolves into the larger, stronger, but slower Raichu, and in some versions of the game evolves from the smaller, even more obnoxiously cute Pichu.
