The Duck Hunt Dog appeared in the game "Duck Hunt", a game released by Nintendo in (?). After firing at and killing a duck, your dog would venture henceforth to retrieve the trophy duck. If you miss your shot, however, he will laugh at you and point a mocking finger at your face.
