Funky Kong is a recurring character in the Donkey Kong series, first appearing in Donkey Kong Country for the SNES. He is also a playable character in Mario Kart Wii, where he can be unlocked by unlocking 4 Expert Staff Ghost data, winning 25 WFC ghost races, or playing 2,250 races. However, he is the fastest character in the game, and is most commonly used with the Flame Runner, which might explain why he's commonly seen in videos of people playing the game. He also appears in the Nintendo Switch version of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Due to that, the "New Funky Mode" tag became a meme, being photoshopped on covers of other games. He is also the subject of various internet memes, including the aforementioned "New Funky Mode".
