Buddy Holly, as frontman to the Crickets and later a solo artist, wa-uh-uh-as among the best remembered rock and roll pioneers of the 1950s, with his short career having influenced many artists since. In 1959, his career was tragically cut short when, on a tour with Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper as other headliners, all three opted to travel by plane to the next show to circumvent further rides in a crap-condition bus. The plane crashed, killing them, the pilot, and the music.
