His pop culture scope expanded beyond the WWE during the 1980s, first as Cyndi Lauper's dad in the "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" music video, and later for portraying Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, for which he had to shave off his trademark rubber-banded beard. He died in October of 2009.
Two of Neil Cicierega's animutations feature songs by Captain Lou, the latter being his most prominent animutational role.
