Although he got his start in serious work such as Forbidden Planet and The Poseidon Adventure, he became much more well known as a comic actor after starring in Airplane! The rest of his career was filled with spoof movies including classics like The Naked Gun and its sequels. Neilsen died in 2010.
Don't call him Shirley.
