Sometimes the word "crystal" is abbreviated as "xtal." I think it has something to do with how the Greek letter Chi (pronounced ki) looks the same as the Roman letter X. This is why Christmas is sometimes written as "Xmas," etc. --Indogutsu 17:56, 14 August 2006 (PDT)
