As head of the top secret government project NERV, Gendo is tasked with leading the defense of Earth against giant alien monsters known as the Angels. To accomplish this end, Gendo employs Japan's greatest tactical secret: angst-ridden teenagers (including his own son, Shinji) piloting giant robots.
