Based on a whimsical mix of the Lion King's ''Circle of Life'', samples of Ome Henk's ''Opblaaskrokodil'', and some improvised keyboard accompaniment by Andrew Kepple, this fun, unserious adventure has been hailed by squirrel-lovers as one of the cuter animutations out there. Although not a traditional animutation, (but are ''any'' animutations really "traditional"?) it nevertheless contains mondegreens and Colin Mochrie. Perhaps this is Kepple's way of demonstrating that he can make an animutational movie that doesn't rely heavily on making references to as many other animutations as possible. Or perhaps he was really trying to be random instead of obscure. Or maybe he was simply too obscure this time. About
Based on a whimsical mix of the Lion King's Circle of Life, samples of Ome Henk's Opblaaskrokodil, and some improvised keyboard accompaniment by Andrew Kepple, this fun, unserious adventure has been hailed by squirrel-lovers as one of the cuter animutations out there. Although not a traditional animutation, (but are any animutations really "traditional"?) it nevertheless contains mondegreens and Colin Mochrie. Perhaps this is Kepple's way of demonstrating that he can make an animutational movie that doesn't rely heavily on making references to as many other animutations as possible. Or perhaps he was really trying to be random instead of obscure. Or maybe he was simply too obscure this time. Some folks have observed parallels between this animutation and Stanley Kubrick's movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, which is one of Kepple's favourite - and oft-parodied - movies. But The Squirrel of Life is not something to be analysed in great detail. It's fun, it's mindless, it's warm and fuzzy and romantic and was released on Saint Valentine's day 2005. Or maybe that's just what Kepple wants us to believe...
