Barney the Dinosaur is the noxiously saccharine purple dinosaur host of the children's TV show Barney & Friends. His Pollyannaish disposition, dopey voice, and frequent singing made him popular among very young children, and a popular 1990s punching bag with nearly everyone else.
His frequency as a mockery target in early WWW days translated to occasional animutational ridicule. His biggest role was in Burn Fest, where he went to various hecks, all of which he loved. He also had red eyes, has been a red Nazi, has eaten balls, and has been referred to as B'harnii.
